Meet Horse Rider Jaclyn!

Hello! My name is Jaclyn and I am from Australia! When I ask my friends what I would be most famous for they say they love my happy outgoing (sometimes outrageous) attitude to everyday situations and my ability to make them all laugh.

She says she is the most excited for “the whole camp experience! I can’t wait to fully immerse myself in sharing my love of horses and riding with the campers, I will probably learn just as much from them as they will from me.”Rusty

And the coolest thing she has ever done? “I sailed on Youth Training Ship Young Endeavour for 11 days, sailing from a tiny town in Western Australia called Exmouth all the way down the coast to Fremantle. We formed groups called Watches and learnt to sail the ship by working as a team, we also encountered rough weather, intolerable sea-sickness, dolphins and flying fish. On the first night we completed our first climb of the foremast, which at 33 meters in strong wind which was absolutely terrifying, but I did it! During the week we had the opportunity to drop DSC_0498anchor in some amazing bays and to swing from a rope right in to the ocean. Towards the end of our voyage we had what is called Command Day, this is when our instructors step back and hand over the ropes to all 24 youth crew for 24 hours as we sail through a series of weigh points. I was voted to be a Watch Leader that meant that I was in charge of the watch making sure that everything was smooth sailing (pun intended!). Watches ran for 4hrs and I was lucky enough to pull the straw for the 12am to 4am watch, we didn’t encounter any problems and we navigated right through the middle of the weigh point, success!”

Her them song? “Roar – Katy Perry. 2014 is going to be my year!”

Jaclyn has a great family and tell us about them here. “I live with my partner and our two dogs Scout and Archer. My partner is in the Army so we move around a fair bit but it just means we get to go on epic road trips and live in places we would never have considered going to before. My mum lives in Canberra and people still get us confused for sisters! She lives with her husband and my step-sister Olivia, who is a child genius!”

Her favorite activity is “Trail riding! The best thing about owning a horse is just being able to saddle up and hit the trails, out there I can just ride, explore new places and not have to worry about anything else.”

And our favorite question? “There are so many fantastic aspects of working with children. I think the best thing is developing a friendship and watching their confidence grow as they learn a new skill or participate in an activity. When I instructed on leadership courses as part of the Australian Army Cadets I would mentor junior cadets so that they would be able to mentor and instruct their own junior cadets, and watching them pass their assessments during the week was especially rewarding.

Well Jaclyn, only a few months left before trail riding and teaching campers to ride is your day to day job!
