National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Called Camp Carolina Home!

Andrew Skurka is quickly becoming a well-known name, especially within the outdoor industry. Andrew was named National Geographic Adventurer of the Year as well as Outside Magazine 2011 Adventurer of the Year after completing some of the most difficult outdoor adventure trips in the world.

So far Andrew has completed multiple impressive trips including hiking the local Appalachian Trail, hiking 8,000 miles up the Atlantic Coast and most recently has completed the amazing feat of  travelling 4,679-miles around Alaska and Yukon, a trek consisting of hiking, skiing and rafting solo around the perimeter of Alaska which took him 6 months. It is no surprise that such a passionate outdoor adventurer was once a much-loved Camp Carolina counselor! Andrew was a member of the Earthworks team (Hiking, Fly Fishing and Sea Kayaking) in his younger days for several years. No doubt teaching these activities to the camper’s in the beautiful setting of Camp Carolina and the surrounding Blue Ridge mountains made him and amazing and valued member of staff with camper’s and counselors alike. We hope he is available in August for our Alumni Reunion!

Andrew will be conducting seminars next week in Asheville. One about his Alaska/Yukon trip and one all about backpacking for all levels of backpackers. Camp Carolina winter staff will be attending, to say Hey to a local legend and old friend as well as learn and be inspired by such an amazing man.
