CCB Hosts Local Mountain Bike Race!

Here at Camp Carolina Mountain Biking is one of our most popular activities. We have top quality Giant mountain bikes that fit all boys, from Chad Boner (our smallest Newt) to our tallest CA and allow all of our campers to really progress their skills. Our counselors are hired from all over the world and this year our superstar mountain biker was Guy Sloan from Scotland who has competed in several big races in the UK. Our boys start their mountain biking activities by putting on appropriate safety equipment and getting fitted up to a bike. Learning about the gears, brakes and riding position comes next before hitting some gently slopes around CCB. From there we have several beginner to advanced trails at CCB plus the boys have the opportunity to head out to several prime mountain biking areas in Western North Carolina for half or full day and overnight trips

During the summer our wonderful Counsellor Assistants helped out our maintenance crew in building a huge, twisting bridge to link up with our new trail at the bottom of Bulldozer Mountain. Check it out here!

This weekend is the trails big debut with the Carolina Youth Mountain Biking League hosting the “Classic at Camp Carolina” race. The race is the 2nd out of 3 races and will be the only race to feature a Bike Jump competition! It is such a great program that really encourages our youth to get outside, be active and find an activity they love. For more information please click here

Camp Carolina aims to support local businesses and events like these wherever possible. We cannot wait to see our future generation of Mountain Bikers competing on CCB’s brand new trail this Saturday!

Camp Carolina Shares Dupont State Forest With… The Hunger Games!

Anyone who has ever been to Camp Carolina will have had the amazing opportunity time and time again to explore the natural beauty that we are lucky enough to have in our back yard… Dupont State Forest.

High Falls, Dupont State Forest

Camp Carolina staff and campers visit the forest, almost daily on a variety of trips, including Horse Riding, Mountain Biking and Hiking. Dupont Forest is home to some of the most amazing water falls in the region, including Bridle Veil, High, Hooker and Triple Falls.

The forest’s beauty and variety of waterfalls and natural formations make it a perfect location for some of Hollywood’s major films. The forests current claim to fame is the film “Last of the Mohicans” but is soon to be over taken by the much anticipate film “The Hunger Games”. A hit book which is set in the future is set to be one of the best movies in 2012 and called Dupont State Forest home for a month of filming.

Check out the video below and see if you recognise some of Dupont’s amazing landmarks!

Camp Carolina calls “America’s Best Kept Secret” Home.

Everyone who has been lucky enough to spend time at Camp Carolina knows that the surrounding areas are not only stunning, but provide a perfect playground for anyone interested in adventure sports. Campers have the opportunity to sign up for many trips in Pisgah and Dupont Forest, including Mountain Biking, Horse Riding, Kayaking, Hiking, Fly Fishing and Climbing under the careful supervision of qualified, skilled and mature counselors.

“Bike Magazine” recently dubbed Transylvania County as Americas Best Kept Secret for Mountain Biking. Each year Bike magazine choose a new destination for its gear-testing issue and this year Brevard and Transylvania County was in its sights! Dupont and Pisgah Forest provide a wide range of trails, from smooth, beginner trails to advanced, technical routes to challenge even the most experienced biker. Bike magazine spent all of October in Brevard exploring the region, testing gear and have provided the nation with amazing reviews and picture perfect photos of the area.

Another snippet of exciting Mountain Bike news is the construction on Bracken Mountain Trail. The trail which is  going to be complete in July will connect downtown Brevard with trails in Pisgah National Forest making it one of the only trails in the country to link a city with a forest.

New Trail and Bridges Complete! (Plus some Valentines love!)

They have also been working on a new trail that starts by Archery/Riflery/Fencing and follows the creek looping past camp fire, and at the base of the mountain before meeting up with the road near the sand filter. They have constructed some awesome bridges to cross the river, either during a short hike or Mountain Bike. So far there are two smaller (24 and 29 feet) bridges and one huge 75 feet curving bridge over low-lying, muddy ground. The Maintenance crew said there is much more work to be completed. Everyone-Get excited!

“Mike hard at work on the smaller bridge”

“Greg working on the smaller bridge”

“ The 75 foot long bridge”

On this valentines day, we would love to give love to our Maintenance Crew! Thanks for all you’re doing to make Camp Carolina an even more amazing place!
