A Great Experience

We recently heard from a very happy parent who had some wonderful things to say about Camp Carolina. Cameron Langset is pursuing improving his lacrosse skills this summer and although we will miss him at CCB we wish him all the best! His dad, Kevin said the following…

Best of 3rd session (586)

Last summers’ camp experience was outstanding for him and he developed so much in so many different ways as you probably see in a majority of the boys each year. I must share that even if he does not come back in the future to Camp Carolina, his experience was a great turning point in his life. To this day, he talks about the counselors and excursions that they all experienced together. We are very grateful to all who made this such a positive experience.  You and your team do an incredible job of recruiting some outstanding staff and planning what boys want to do at their age.

Perhaps in a future summer if he does not play lacrosse he will be back to Camp Carolina or maybe as a counselor. Next school year Cameron is looking at attending a boarding school and we will say that if he does choose to go to boarding school we will value ever minute we have with him this summer. Hopefully with IMG_3257our cancellation another young man will get the same growth out of camp as Cameron experience.

We all believe that Camp Carolina really provides our CCB boys to grow and develop into young gentleman with passion and drive in life. As the weather starts warming up we are getting more and more excited for summer 2013!

A Campers First Year

We recently received a lovely email from a first time campers parents that we feel sums up justIMG_3257 how amazing that first year at Camp Carolina is. Alex Newton had attended the awesome Father-Son weekend with his dad Brian in 2011 and loved it so much he decided-Yes! I want to go for the summer on my own!

Best of First Session_2012 (325)

Alex’s parents Brian and Jenn emailed and said “First of all I would like to say how much our family loves your camp.  Our son Alex attended camp last year, and we did the father/son weekend the year before that.  We feel your camp is at the wonderful intersection of enthusiasm, confidence, and love for the outdoors. We marvel at how enthusiastic your staff are, and are simply blown away by the types of activities you offer at Camp Carolina.  Thank you for so much for providing such a wonderful and fulfilling opportunity for boys and young men.

They also emphasized how much enthusiasm and confidence Alex gained during his time at CCB and how much he loved having the opportunity to try so many new activities as a first year camper.

Alex said that “he really liked the horseback riding.  He also liked that you have your own private lake for kayak practice.  Also, he loved the outdoor activities and the “spend the night” activities, especially cabin day.  He really enjoyed his hike to “Hunger Games Falls”.  He also said “I never met a counselor that was mean.  All of the counselors were nice, everybody was nice!”  He can’t wait to do all of the activities he hasn’t tried yet.  Last but not least, he enjoyed the competitions with the girls (archery, riflery, and tennis).”

The email ended with this lovely message…
“Thank you again for providing such a wonderful place for children to spend their summers.  There is truly something special about your camp.”
Well Newton family we cannot wait to see you again for another incredible summer!

The True Gentleman…

Here at Camp Carolina reading “The True Gentleman” is an incredibly important and meaningful tradition. Last session our amazing Counselor Assistants decided that they would dress in their nicest shirts and recite “The True Gentleman” to a lucky few administration staff (Director-JJ, Program Director-Jimbo, Tripping Director-Adam) plus owners Mary Eccles and Alfred Thompson. The CA (Counselor Assistant) program is a fantastic opportunity for our older campers who would like to develop leadership and team work skills as well as build up professional working relationships with the staff at Camp Carolina. For more information please check out our website here or contact us on 828-884-2414

The True Gentleman

…is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies,

…who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity,

…who is himself humbled if necessity compel him to humble another, who does not flatter wealth, cringes before power or boast of his own possessions or achievements,

…who speaks with frankness, but always with sincerity and sympathy, whose deed follows his work,

…who thinks of the rights and feelings of others rather than his own,

…who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe.

Learning All Kinds of Lessons…

Like asking a girl to dance! We love these two pictures of one of our dog campers Clark asking on of the Keystone girls to dance last weekend. The smiles say a thousand words!

Camp Carolina is the Closest Thing to Heaven- By Leland Henry

Hi my name is Leland Henry I am originally from Nashville Tennessee, and about a year ago I moved to an area about 40 minutes away from Houston known as The Woodlands TX.  I have been going to Camp Carolina since the 1st grade. Now being the age of 14 and going in to 8th grade I am happy to say, that this will be my seventh year attending CCB.

CCB first off teaches Campers, and maybe even Counselors to build up Self Esteem, Courage and to learn Honesty, Respect and Many other things a boy can learn and use as a key in life. Camp Carolina has taught me all these things that have made me the person I am today. Not only did they teach me to become a more mature young man, but they also have taught me that you only live once and why not have fun, and why not adventure, and why not set personal goals for your self.

Over the past seven years I have accomplished much more than I ever thought I would accomplish in that small period of time. Also in the past seven years I have not only made some of the best memories of my life at CCB, but have had the best times of my life there. Every Staff Member I’ve met and every Camper I have met there would say the same to. Camp Carolina is a one of kind camp that offers stuff that no other camp in the world could whether it being Mountain Boarding, Surfing, Skating, Mountaineering or Having Alfred stand up and sing the national anthem on World cup day. It’s completely diverse and that’s what I love about camp. All the people I meet, all the fun I have, all the lessons I learn, but most importantly all the memories that I will take out of camp

.

Never have I ever had abad summer there nor have I ever wanted to go home after staying there. It’s those one of a kind places where everything seems perfect where there is no Bullying and no ones better than another, where everybody around you is your friend, and a place where you know your going to be having the time of your life. This year I am going to be a Hugger and 2 years after that a C.A. and 2 years after that a C.I.T. and then a counselor I can’t wait till I get to experience all that because I know they are going to be just about the best jobs I will ever have during my life. After that I will carry on with my own life and hopefully some day send my own kids to CCB.

Camp Carolina is just about the closest thing to heaven because it’s just that perfect. I like to thank All the Staff Members I have met over the past seven years and all my friends I have met there. All the way from Venezuela to China. I seriously do hope you choose to accept Camp Carolina as your home because I did and it’s made my life in so many ways a lot better.
