Check out what is going on at Camp Carolina

What a Weekend!

DSC_0126Yesterday we said good bye to our awesome first weekend Father-Sons after an incredible weekend of fun and adventure here at CCB. Saturday night was when the fun began, with a delicious dinner, in camp activities and some hilarious “My dad is famous for…” introductions before a good nights sleep in the historic CCB cabins.

Friday morning delivered a beautiful sunny sky and the opportunity to try out 2 half day activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking, sea kayaking, caving and fly fishing. Our father-sons had a great time and after the evenings night hike everyone was ready for a good nights sleep after such a busy day.

Saturday morning was rafting day! We loaded up in the CCB bus “Big Jon” and headed out to the Tennessee border to the lower pigeon river for lunch and then an exhilarating raft down the rapids. Saturday night was a great chance for our “campers” to try out camp by themselves for a few hours while their dads headed up to Ec and Alfred’s house. The boys spent some time playing on the water frontDSC_0122 aqua toys before showering and heading up for dinner where they sat CCB style with counselors. After dinner it was time for camp fire and s’mores where they were joined by their dads for some Camp Carolina songs and trip reports.

Sunday morning we offered some in camp trips such as fly fishing, mountain boarding, mountain biking and even got the hang glider up and running for our excited campers before everyone headed on home after a delicious dinner of burgers. We cannot wait to see our campers return for the summer and are excited for our second father-son weekend starting this Thursday.

WHAT A DAY!

Meanwhile in Scotland…

Spring time… Blue skies, nice warm afternoons, green grass and colorful flowers all “spring” to mind. It is a time of the year welcomed by everyone but especially people who have experienced long, cold, snowy winters. Like people from Scotland!guy 2

Guy Sloan who is an outstanding mountain biking counselor (also helped with climbing, mountain boarding and caving in 2012) is from the Isle of Arran, Scotland. Last week most of the UK experienced abnormally cold and snowy weather but Arran was one of the worst hit spots!

Around a week ago Arran was hit by a freak blizzard and ice storm conditions which knocked out the mains power to the entire island (the island isn’t huge!) and with winds in excess of 50mph th ferries that would normally have helped supply the island could not help them. Guy tells us they had 200 engineers shipped over to fix the damaged electricity pylons which had collapsed under the weight of ice stacked on them. Food supplies had to be airlifted to remote parts of the island until the wind had died off enough for the ferries to begin working again.

Guys workplace was turned into an incident control room housing all the emergency services, engineers and mountain rescue volunteers so Guy was put to work coordinating phone calls. Guys home town set up a free food shelter which helped everyone who had no electricity to keep warm and cook food. He says everything is now getting back to normal with the snow slowly melting…

Guy said it was like a “never-ending cabin day but with snow rather than heavy dew”

These experiences and stories that our international staff members bring with them is what makes CCB a truly international experience for our campers who learn so much about such a wide rang of places around the world.

Guy-It’s warming up at CCB, we will see you in a few weeks!

97 Days!

As our campers and counselors all around the world are either waking up, having lunch, having dinner or sleeping soundly on this fabulous Monday-we at Camp Carolina have just one thing on our mind. Summer 2013 is getting closer! 97 days closer in fact… Close enough that counselors have started booking flights, campers parents are starting to plan and campers are just getting really excited! And on this Monday morning we would like to relive the memories of Opening Day for the first session 2012.

Summer Days!

The lake is full! Another exciting event which means summer 2013 is inching closer. Congrats to water front counselor Dave Young and kitchen staff member Karen Corte for correctly choosing the “lake fill date”.

Over the next few months camp will slowly begin to come to life as preparations for the summer get under way. The leaves will start growing, the grass will get greener, flowers will start blooming and the icy cold lake water will start looking a little more appealing. Then the counselors will start arriving, the horses will come back to CCB, the kitchen will re open, the staff training will begin and before we know it-father son weekend 1 will be upon us. And we CANNOT wait!

To get everyone revved up for the summer let’s reminisce a little and enjoy the fun and games that was first session 2012.

First Session Yearbook Released!

Hi there happy campers, parents and counselors! We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful time of the year… Here at CCB the leaves have already started turning orange, red and yellow, year round staff are trading shorts for jeans and jackets and the lake is becoming just a little bit too chilly to take an after work dip.

Our photovideo super star Rufus headed home yesterday after visiting New York City. But he has left CCB with some very special presents! We have all 3 yearbooks as well as the 2012 promotional DVD uploaded on YouTube and ready to go live! We are really excited to keep the Camp Carolina community engaged and excited for summer 2013 so make sue you stay tuned to our YouTube, Facebook, Blog, Twitter and Pinterest pages as the days get shorter and the weather colder (or vice versa for our Southern Hemisphere year round summer chasers!) In the meantime enjoy all the fun, games and special moments with our 2012 First Session and Intro Session 1 campers!
